Neil and I decided to go into the mountains to see the beautiful colors of fall. I have always wanted to go to the Ouray/Telluride area, so that is where we decided to go! It is about a 5 hour drive, but definitely worth it. It was a gorgeous drive.

We left Friday after work and got to our campsite at about 8:30. It was dark and we had a hard time actually finding a spot to put our tent! It got down to 31 degress that night...brr!! But it was a beautiful morning. We had a "walk-to" site which meant we had to park in the parking lot and then haul our stuff down the trail to the campsite. Good thing they provided these handy carts to carry your stuff.

Saturday morning we went to Ouray...they call it "The Little Switzerland of America". It was a cute little town.

We hiked up to this waterfall. We had to walk back into the cave.

Then we hiked up to this bridge and saw the waterfall below us.

Then we headed to Telluride where we saw some good color in the aspens. This is what we were hoping for!

We found another "walk-to" site. They call it a Primitive Camp Area. Our tent was back there somewhere!

You just have to stop for some ice cream on a warm day!

As we were walking around, we discovered a FREE gondola. Apparently when they were building the ski resort, they destroyed some precious land. So part of their penance was to always have a free gondola.

Very nice view!

We got off at one stop and noticed they were having a bike race. It was a 12-hour downhill mountain bike race. They would ride for 12 hours and see how many laps they could do. We went up the gondola again around 8:00 and they were still going...even in the dark!

We found a river for Neil to do some fishing in. He didn't catch anything here.

Telluride is pretty much the end of the road. You can't go much further. Neil and I drove all the way through town and came to what we thought was a dead end with some nice scenery. Then we noticed the waterfalls and the building at the top of it.

We then saw this sign. I didn't think we should drive the scary road to the top, especially since we don't have 4-wheel drive. But Neil thought we would be fine...it is a company car!

Here is a closer view of the falls and the building at the top. I thought this was close enough, but Neil wanted to go farther. I was quite scared this entire time! The road is worse than the road to the top of Pikes Peak.

It is a house at the top! Now who would want to live there??

They have a great view, but a terrible commute to work everyday!

I know I am smiling in the picture, but I was crying inside. The top of the road was so scary!

Neil was pretty pumped about this adventure.

I regained my happiness as we got closer to the bottom!
Here are a few pictures that we took. Picture just don't do it justice...you need to experience it in person.
Beautiful = Beautiful scenery!! To see it in person was probably breath-taking! Love from SD
