Spring in Alaska

Most attractions are only open May-September. The had everything boarded up. Apparently March is not a popular time for tourists.

Mt. McKinley is back there somewhere. We were kind of bummed it wasn't a clear day. But we still saw some beautiful scenery.

We love national parks! We drove about 2 hours south of Fairbanks to Denali National Park. It was the first day of the season the road was open!

We spent an afternoon at the Chena Hot Springs.

We visisted an ice museum/bar/hotel. You could stay here for only $600 a night. You could also get married there. I don't know why you would want to do either of those things...it was only 20 degrees inside!

Neil saddled up to the ice bar. They only offered one drink...and apple martini for $15. We passed.

The Alaskan Pipeline. Neil actually went up to the Arctic Ocean and saw the beginning of it. It is weird how it works....it zig-zags all over the place and even goes underground. You can be driving along and it suddenly appears. The next moment it is no where to be seen.

The Cat in the Hat...in Russian! I spent most of my time in Barnes and Nobel while Neil was working.

The beautiful scenery! Alaska truly is a huge state.

This is one of the most interesting things we saw. There is this tiny town outside of Alaska. They set up this tri-pod in the river. The tri-pod is attached to a clock. They have a contest to see when the ice will go out. You pay $2.50 for each guess. You have to be right on...to the minute! Last year the winner won $283,000.
